ELISA ZUPPINI: Himalaya
Himalaya explores the material and sensual dimensions of the body and reality as a complex web of different systems. Zuppini examines the conflict between these systems, which, like some kind of tectonics, collide but never fully integrate with each other. This confrontation can be interpreted as a metaphor for the disjointed yet interrelated, forced, and even unsettled way in which various systems may operate in our minds.
Her quest addresses the irreconcilable, that which cannot fully coexist, the most dazzling aspects of artificial aesthetics or synthetic hybridisation when reflecting those through the body. Her critical insight into reality reveals slow erosion within the geological realm, accelerating images of digital space, and the repetition and obsessiveness of mechanical bodies.
Zuppini’s performance, accompanied by musical landscapes (composed by M.E.S.H.) consisting of layered sound textures sourced both from the organic and the synthetic, transports us to the thresholds of a cinematic atmosphere. It combines elements of sci-fi, sculpture, and deconstructed clubbing to encourage contemplation on the nature of time and multiplicity.
