Who We Are
Production: Pekinpah
Spider Festival, a festival of radical bodies, began to knit its web back in 2010 in Ljubljana. The idea came from the artist Matej Kejžar, who proposed to not only bring these wild bodies together, but to interlace them and open a possibility for intense critical thematizations of a complex cultural-political atmosphere, social frictions and paradoxes, contemporary taboos and most urgent topics – through an artistic expression, of course. On Spider Festival, the public is confronted with unconventional approaches and discourses, with anti-hegemonic objections and proposals of something better, with new, hybrid genres, with dance art which is only rarely presented in the mainstream. Spider Festival happens once various forces of a diverse individuals come together under the umbrella of Pekinpah, while the artistic guidance is in the hands of local artists who possesse a wide, but also a precise insight into both local and global artistic flows. In other words: Spider Festival is a festival entirely committed to art; it is a space of art in which, through critical movements, what is in one way or the other disturbing to the benevolent course of everyday life; it is that which is not easy, but it is necessary.
