BENJAMIN ABEL MEIRHAEGHE & THE UNREQUIRED LOVE / MUZIEKTHEATER TRANSPARANT:
SPECTACLES
In his artistic work, the countertenor, performer, and director Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe Meirhaeghe creates – to quote the reviewers – “a liberating anarchy” (PZAZZ) in which he appears as a “hypnotic performer, floating elusively between man and woman, seriousness and ridicule, real and artificial, meek and satanic.” (De Volkskrant) For the piece Spectacles, Meirhaeghe joins forces with the producer Laurens Mariën to once again create an electronic concert that navigates between a spectacle and a love ritual. Bipolar genres and atmospheres, operatesque dada blues punk-pop, a high-pitched voice, dark beats, and theatricality make spring of this grandly intimate spectacle. Together with dancer Hanako Hayakawa and writer Louise van den Eede, they cherish hope for a different society; where people find each other around poppy fires, where spectacles have a liberating primal force, where all possible forms of love constantly exchange costumes.
