MATEJ KEJŽAR:

HOUSE BOLERO

“It all started as an ode to Dance,” Matej Kejžar tells us. “This was some five years ago during an experiment on how to learn from dance rather than on learning how to dance or how to be oneself. The crazy, odd, queer, and idiosyncratic dance styles that the experiment encompassed evolved around working with and respecting physical presence, and focused on kinaesthetic writing within space and time, in a common force field, in a dynamic territory, and in a place where a constant change of dynamics is possible.” The experiment continues. This time, the occasion is the 60th anniversary of the Studio Contemporary Dance Company. House Bolero is really an intergenerational experiment with dancers aged 21 to 69. Working with their bodies, with various ways of physical presence, and a passion for dance they suggest a new thought: the writing of dance is a force that challenges normalization.
