MIKAEL MARKLUND WITH MATEJ KEJŽAR:
303
The digital era started with the so-called Techno Revolution of the late 80s and early 90s. While capitalists ensured their place in new fields of profit and domination, civil society took on an entirely different form of engagement. Large numbers of non-normative individuals created a form of partying called the rave. Along came the AIDS crisis. Mikael Marklund lost many friends. The Techno revolution likewise fueled dance as art. Choreographic work organized dancers to move together in time and space. How do these past and contemporary times communicate with each other? The dance piece 303 draws its title from the analogue synthesizer Roland TB-303 which was highly popular in the past decades but was later replaced with digital machines. Inspired by the intense digitalization of our lives during the pandemic, the project focuses on the relationship between our time's analogue and digital realities.
