MEG STUART & DOUG WEISS
ALL THE WAY AROUND
It goes like this: The choreographer and dancer Meg Stuart, who’s known for developing new languages for each project in collaboration with artists from different creative disciplines comes together with the jazz musician and acoustic bassist Doug Weiss in an intimate concert setting. Together, they go on an uncharted journey into movement and sound. All the Way Around takes the ballad, a song of longing and defiance, and breaks it down into small but meaningful gestures. Tracing and unfurling spirals of memory, All the Way Around opens a door to return our collective experience to the level of the personal. “When Meg and I ‘play’ together,” says Doug, “I am very much beginning in a place of memory, even including nostalgia, with the ultimate goal being to get to that place where the piece is just flowing within and out of and around us. In a way, we are erasing memory and nostalgia with new experiences.”*
