REINALDO RIBEIRO: NO/MAS/SACRE

In NO/MAS/SACRE, a dance performance directed by Reinaldo Ribeiro in collaboration with dancer Aymará Parola and pianist Lea Petra, one will not be exhausted by small talk. Quite the contrary, this is a piece that jumps right into the core of the matter: it directly reclaims the right to anger, virtuosity and “...excess, beautiful excess. Liberating excess, excess that highlights the repression of a society.” (Angelica Liddell)

What at first perhaps seems as a classic triangle—piano, pianist, and dance—immediately subverts itself into a dazzling ritual of the ludic, the grotesque, and the transgressive. At its core, NO/MAS/SACRE brings to the front an exploration of existence on the limits of one’s own body, where movement and sound constantly renegotiate the norms and rules in a situation of their encounter.

Fueled by today’s pressing urgencies, these tensions emerge as a potent source of affect and turbulence. This profound engagement underscores the significance of creating a piece like NO/MAS/SACRE, imbued with a decolonial, feminist, and committed perspective.
